This article aims to comprehend BRICS expansion and its consequences for Russo-Brazilian bilateral relations. Brazilian Foreign Policy tends to have a view on BRICS as a reformer of international regimes and institutions, working within a multilateral dimension on a consensus building efforts. Russia attributes to BRICS a newer and broader role intending to transform global order, frontally challenging the international regimes after the Second World War as well as the Western powers as their representative and main beneficiaries. The text focuses in the characteristics of the newcomer partners and prospective rivals as well as the relations with States and International Organisations, especially among Middle Eastern and North African countries (MENA). Industrial and commercial sectorial analyses cannot enable researchers and policymakers to cope with factors outside of the organisation`s agenda and common goals for the future. Brazil`s Western hemispheric sphere of influence in Latin America could also be a challenge for BRICS expansion due to its own long known differences between Spanish and Portuguese colonial inherited rival perceptions. Also, this work intends to provide exploratory ways of understanding for new prospective studies on regional cooperation amongst BRICS members.
