During the second half of the 20th century, the world was divided into two camps: communism and capitalism. The Soviet Union and the United States faced off in a series of political and economic conflicts that ended up permeating almost every sphere of society. Therefore, since the 1950s, the federal government committed to the development of a nuclear project that included the creation of institutions dedicated to nuclear research, which would ultimately lead to the construction of one or more nuclear power plants to consolidate an energy transition and national sovereignty project, moving away from the use and extraction of fossil fuels as the country's main source of energy.
