Relations between Russia and Latin America are characterized by both opportunities and challenges, particularly concerning the rapprochement between geographically distant and seemingly disparate states. However, a closer examination reveals a generally consistent relationship since Latin American independences, albeit with varying degrees of depth and complexity. The new millennium and its geopolitical challenges highlight the potential for strengthening these ties. In this context, studies on Russia–Latin America relations have proliferated in both Russian and Latin American academic spheres. This paper proposes a systematic review, grounded in content analysis, of the studies published in these contexts between 2001 and 2024, based on data available from the Russia–Latin America Observatory (Ruslat). The study aims to detail the prioritized agendas, the key actors highlighted, the theoretical frameworks adopted, and the methodologies employed. Its objective is to outline a profile of academic production on Russia–Latin America relations in contemporary times, shedding light on the work of researchers affiliated with Russian and Latin American universities in order to understand how local scholarship interprets this relationship. It is worth emphasizing that, in a world where hegemonic knowledge often distorts analyses of international affairs, describing and disseminating work produced in alternative knowledge spaces is essential for the democratization of the international order on multiple fronts.
