Features of the determination of temperature inversions using a microwave radiometer at the observation station in Peterhof
ISARD-2025-remote019
The negative vertical temperature gradient in the troposphere, or the phenomenon of temperature inversion, plays a special role in shaping weather conditions, affecting air quality and the environmental situation. Since the presence of temperature inversions is closely associated with the observation of a high level of pollution in the air basin, the topic of the possibility of local determination of such meteorological conditions remains relevant.
In this paper, an analysis of inverted temperature profiles obtained using MV measurements with an RPG-HATPRO radiometer at the monitoring tower of St. Petersburg State University RC Geomodel in Peterhof, from 2013 to 2023. Based on the observed features of the reconstructed profiles and the capabilities of the device, selection criteria were developed to compare the results with the radiosonde profiles in the village. Voeikovo.
The average values of the main parameters of temperature inversions (intensity, power and height of the beginning of the inversion) in the region for the specified period are calculated. The possibilities and limitations of using radiometer data to detect cases of temperature inversion are demonstrated.
